High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a medical condition characterized by elevated blood pressure levels. Persistent hypertension can lead to serious complications such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and vision impairment. Duovas 5/20 Tablet combines amlodipine and olmesartan, which work together to lower blood pressure.
Duovas 5/20 Tablet (Antihypertensive agent) is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) in patients who do not respond adequately to therapy with either olmesartan or amlodipine alone.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while you are taking Duovas 5/20 Tablet as it may further lower your blood pressure and make you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
Duovas 5/20 Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it can harm your fetus.
Duovas 5/20 Tablet is not recommended for use while breastfeeding as it is not known if this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
Do not drive or operate any tools or machines if you experience dizziness, sleepiness, or headache after taking Duovas 5/20 Tablet.
Duovas 5/20 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with impaired kidney function and should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems or with a surgical history of a kidney transplant. Consult your doctor before taking Duovas 5/20 Tablet.
Duovas 5/20 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems (such as biliary obstruction, gall stones, and jaundice) and should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking Duovas 5/20 Tablet.
Olmesartan Medoxomil+Amlodipine is used for Hypertension (high blood pressure).
Amlodipine: A dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that reduces peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure by inhibiting the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle.
Olmesartan Medoxomil: Blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking its binding to the AT1 receptor.
Common side effects of Duovas 5/20 Tablet may include:

Initial therapy: Start with 5/20 mg once daily for 1 to 2 weeks and titrate as needed up to a maximum of 10/40 mg once daily. Consider reduced starting doses in elderly patients and caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
The antihypertensive effect of angiotensin II receptor antagonists like Olmesartan Medoxomil may be reduced by NSAIDs, including selective COX-2 inhibitors. Close monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes is advised with combination therapy.
Duovas cannot be co-administered with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes.
Pregnancy Category D. Duovas is contraindicated in the second and third trimesters due to the risk of fetal death. It should be discontinued as soon as pregnancy is detected. Caution is advised during lactation.
Use with caution in volume- or salt-depleted patients, with severe aortic stenosis, and severe obstructive coronary artery disease. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients, renal impairment, and hepatic impairment have not been established.
